Homework Policy

Homework is designed to aid the student in achieving classroom and school goals, and it should never be used to punish or merely keep students busy.

Students in my class may be assigned approximately 30 minutes of homework per day.
The homework I give falls into one of these five categories:

**Please note that most of your child's work will be done in class.

#1.   Nightly Reading:  Each night students need to read at home. They can read independently or to another family member for a minimum of 30 minutes every day.

#2.   Unfinished Work:  Assignments that are not completed in class and are within the student’s capability to finish at home.  Unfinished work is not accepted.

#3.   Research:  Work that involves the use of reference materials.  It is often given on an extended-time basis.

#4.   Review:  Time spent at home studying and preparing for tests.

In the case of excused absences, students have one extra day for each excused absence, not counting the day of their return.

If a student is ill but able to do schoolwork at home, I will be happy to prepare assignments that can be done without direct teacher instruction.

What do I do if I am absent?

If you are absent, check your Google Classroom account, my website (Homework Tab and Daily Agenda), AND AERIES. You are free to email or message me with any questions you have; try to do as much work as possible before you come back to school.  However many days you were gone is the number of days you have to make up your work on time.  After that, your work is late.

Grading/Late work policy:

Your child's grades will be based on classwork, homework, projects tests/quizzes, and participation in class. During the first trimester only, students have until the following Monday to turn in missing work on the current progress report for 50%. Students who do not turn in the work by Monday morning will earn a 0%. No late work will be accepted after the first trimester. Grades are updated regularly.

Long term/larger graded assignments (assignments made at least two weeks in advance) are due the day of the student's return from an excused absence.

Please call the school, or e-mail me at lauren_stuenckel@etiwanda.org by 8:00 am of the school day to make arrangements for work to be picked up.
